The Roles in Armwrestling

⚙️ The Role of Strength and Technique

Contrary to popular belief, armwrestling is not just about raw strength. It is a combination of physical preparation, tendon endurance, and mechanical technique.

Key Physical Attributes

  • Forearm and wrist strength

  • Finger pressure and grip control

  • Shoulder and upper back stability

  • Core rotation and body positioning

Top Armwrestling Techniques

🌀 1. Toproll

A move that targets the opponent’s fingers and wrist. You "roll" your hand over theirs to open their arm and gain leverage.

🪝 2. Hook

A powerful inside move. You curl your wrist inward and pull your opponent’s arm toward your body to control the center.

💥 3. Press

A move where you use your shoulder and triceps to press downward explosively. Usually used when you gain high hand position.

Training Tip: Most armwrestlers specialize in one technique and train to defend against the others.

🛠️ Equipment Used in Armwrestling

To compete or train safely, you’ll need access to proper equipment. The standard armwrestling table is designed for safety and fair competition.

Essential Equipment:

  • Armwrestling Table – Regulation size, with elbow pads and touch pads

  • Straps – Used when competitors slip out of grip

  • Chalk – Helps reduce sweat and improve grip

  • Wrist wraps / elbow sleeves – For injury prevention during training

  • Grip tools – For strengthening fingers, wrists, and pronators
